The Porsche 944 was developed on the basis of the Porsche 924 Carrera GT and was launched in 1982. Porsche placed the 944 well below the 911 in terms of price and performance. Instead of the Audi engine from the Porsche 924, the 944 was equipped from the start with a newly developed Porsche four-cylinder engine. The 944 sold well, was also one of the most successful sports cars of its time and helped ensure Porsche's survival. The 944 was further developed into the model variant "Porsche 944 S2" and was replaced by the 968 series in 1991. The engine power of the 944 varies was basically 150hp which incidentally provided fine performance. Roadholding was, also thanks to the Transaxle construction method, very good. Besides the turbo version with 220hp (later 250hp), from August 1986 the 944 was available as the "S", whose engine had 16 valves and produced 190hp. Just two years later, the 944 S was replaced by the 944 S2. With a displacement of 3 litres and a four-valve cylinder head, the engine had the largest displacement of any four-cylinder in-line in a production car at the time of its premiere with 280 Nm of torque and 211 hp. The engine was so good that Porsche decided to also use it in its successor, the 968.
The 944 offered here is one such from the last series with the fat 3-litre engine. On 13 February 1990, the car was admitted by Porsche Italy and, as far as we can tell, sold to its first owner in 1991. The 2nd owner also had the car serviced at The Italian Porsche dealer. The last owner (born in 1933(!) had the car until 2017 after which the car ended up in a Dutch collection. The maintenance is stamped to 2000 and 119,800km. After that it was driven only sporadically. The car is rust-free, starts and drives, but needs a bit of love and attention.
Our opinion
The Porsche 944 has long been an underdog. Many drive-or were killed in various Porsche Cups (for which the car is ideally suited) or fell prey to the rust devil. In our opinion, one of the nicest handling Porsches and, as an S2, thanks to the fat engine, power steering and various improvements (including the larger track width), a completely different car from the 924 or early 944s. If you are looking for a rust-free example with a neat interior and attractive mileage that you can give a bit of love then this is your car. Autoblog also drove the 944 we offered. They were impressed by its handling and performance.
About the seller
The previous owner added the car to his extensive collection and barely drove it. To make room for 2 other cars, he traded in a number of cars that are now being auctioned through The Collectables.

The interior is clean, only the cover of the centre console is loose and the air conditioning is out of order. We recommend pre-commissioning maintenance. Met Italiaanse papieren dus de auto 944 moet nog ingevoerd worden?
Hoeveel bedraagt het( %)opgeld op deze auto?
Is de 944 volledig werkend en dus veilig rijdend?

Goedemiddag FiftyOne.
