Volkswagen Beetle 1963 Ragtop

The Volkswagen Beetle is an icon that evokes instant recognition from everyone. Indeed, there are few cars with such a long history as the Beetle. Consequently, it is one of the most successful, longest-produced and most influential models in automotive history. As many as 21.5 million were produced. In Germany, more than 15 million came off the assembly line, less than 2% of them as the so-called glasses Beetle, which was later succeeded by the ‘little oval’. The oval Beetle also proved to have too small a rear window, so in 1957 the rear window was enlarged by some 50%. The Beetle got a little better every year, stronger engines, draught windows, and indicators instead of arrow indicators. From 1965, the 1300cc and 1500cc engines became available.
 
Most Beetles did not survive. They were often scrapped. The Beetle offered by us was delivered new in Sweden in 1963. By now equipped with the more powerful 1200cc engine that delivered 34hp at the time. Arriving in the Netherlands in 2013, this Beetle, which is fitted with a so-called ‘Ragtop’ or roll roof, underwent a total restoration. The specialist who tackled this Beetle did not do a half-assed job, as can be seen in the photos. Really everything has been restored or renewed. Upholstery, counters, suspension, engine, body, sheet metal, etc.etc. The skai interior matches the Berrylgreen paintwork perfectly. At the time of the photos, the engine had not yet been fitted, but of course this Beetle with overhauled engine will be delivered to its new owner driving.

Our opinion

This Beetle with Ragtop is truly in mint condition. No expense has been spared. Highly recommended for those who want to get in and drive. If you buy a project and start it yourself or have it done, bear in mind that you will probably be (much) more expensive in terms of costs. Spring is coming, open the roof and tour, we knew it!

The seller has a hobby that got out of hand and a large collection of Beetles. To make room for new projects, this Ragtop may be auctioned through The Collectables.
