Although many a Porsche ‘’Fan‘’ criticised the 996 generation, that opinion is now rapidly turning. It dries up nicely shall we say, especially as an MK2 like this 4S convertible. Wide hips, a low sporty line, a continuous reflector at the rear, quality materials and a delightful atmospheric boxer engine. Introduced in 1997, the 996 range is finally starting to get the appreciation it deserves. Vilified by purists at the time, ‘because a kettle of water’. By now we are 26 years on and there appears to be nothing wrong with water-cooled. Moreover, in this generation 911, all switches are finally where you expect them, you have a perfectly working air conditioning and you can wring out such a relatively modern 911 thanks to sufficient horsepower, a not too big body and the necessary safety systems. Come and find that with a 993 or G model twice as expensive. It is not for nothing that many a car journalist privately drives a 996. There is also a risk attached to the relatively low entry price for a 996. If a 911 is bought by someone who saves on maintenance, you end up buying a very expensive 911. Because in terms of maintenance (costs), it remains a Porsche, of course.
This 996 4S offered by us is a gem that can hardly be found anywhere. Originally delivered in the Netherlands (Porsche Wittebrug) and immediately taken to Switzerland by its first English owner. From there, she took the Porsche to her home in England and sold the car with just 7,665km on the odometer in 2016 to its new owner, a German. On 16 January 2023, the car was sold by Porsche specialist Eleven Classics to its current Dutch owner. Executed in the great composed combo of Polar silver metallic with a chic natural brown full-leather interior and dark blue Convertible top a handsome appearance. Also rich in equipment including: Bose sound system, automatic transmission, seat heating, parking assistant, Bi-Xenon headlights, an electrically operated hood and very special several Rootwood accents.
This is an exceptionally clean car with no significant signs of use with only the root wood starting to show some cracks due to age.
Our opinion
A very neat 996 4S convertible, delivered in the Netherlands, with a fully stamped service book and the correct options. A special appearance due to the walnut wood present. Thanks to its virgin mileage, the car drives like new. Autoblog also drove this 996 and raved about the overall condition of the car and how well the automatic gearbox suits the character of this Cabriolet.
About the seller
The last owner bought the car just under two years ago and barely drove it because he thought it would be a shame to put more miles on it. Partly because of this, he decided to trade the car in for a more modern one.
