A cult car first class. With the 928, in production from model year 1978, the focus was on low weight. The doors, both front wings and bonnet were aluminium. The bumpers were plastic and integrated into the bodywork, The aluminium profiles behind the bumper could withstand a collision up to 8 km/h maximum.
The 928 had distinctive round, electrically operated folding headlights. All 928 models were powered by a water-cooled V8 engine with a 90° block angle. In the first series, the engine had a capacity of 4.5 litres, from the 1979 model year it became 4.7 litres to grow to a whopping 5.4 litres until the final stage. Following the transaxle principle, the gearbox was located at the rear axle which was a revolutionary development with double wishbones (so-called Weissachas) that behaved as a kind of passive rear-wheel steering. The 928 S had a black front and rear spoiler, side protection strips in body colour and side indicators. Displacement increased from the initially 4.7-litre to 5.0-litre (1986 model year). Power was 300 hp and rose to 310 hp from model year 1984 and 288 hp (with catalytic converter) from model year 1986.
The 1986 928S offered by us features the 4.7-litre with 288hp. Originally delivered in Switzerland (Davos) on 9 April 1986. In the mid-90s, the car came to Germany, after which its last owner brought it to the Netherlands in 1998 and kept it in his collection for 24 years. At the end of 2000, the 928 was serviced once more at Porsche Centrum Eindhoven at 92795km. After that, the car was used sporadically and has been in the collection since 2012 (MOT valid until May 2013). The seller of the car thought it was "too nice" to leave it and put it in his stock in January 2023, but now decides to say goodbye.
In recent weeks, this 928 S has been extensively checked at Porsche 928 specialist "de Loods" in den Dolder. An extensive report was drawn up and for just under €4000,- all necessary work was carried out including a fresh MOT. Engine, timing belt, gearbox were found dry and in order and no significant rust was found. Photos of the report and repairs are visible in the photo report.
Our opinion
As previously reported, a Cult car first class. The 928 became the first true sports car car of the year in 1978. Porsche believed the 928 should be "the" successor to the 911, but we all know by now how it turned out. Many 928s have not stood the test of time, which is why this untouched 928S of European origin with low mileage is a great opportunity to get in on this fantastic touring car. Especially now that the car has been extensively checked.
About the seller
The last private owner had the 928 for no less than 24 years, but didn't really enjoy it judging by the mileage. After being traded in, the current business owner had the idea of collecting it himself, but now wants to sell the car anyway. To shed more light on the condition of the 928 S, the car has had an extensive check in recent weeks and the necessary repairs have been carried out.

Mvg Ton
