The last air-cooled Porsche is and always has been a thing. The die-hards swear by the indestructible Mezger engine with its raw boxer sound. In this latest version with varioram probably the best air cooler available. 286hp from 3.6 liters doesn't seem like much, but on less than 1400kg and with the 6-speed manual transmission a joy to drive. Good for 286hp, with the potential to tap 270km/h. Combined with the ability to fold the roof back. That these engines last a long time is no secret the current odometer reading of 293,000km indicates that the car has been used for what it was made for and let's face it, this is only a little over 10,000km a year. With proper maintenance the double can be reached just like that.
The first owner gave the car to himself on 23-12-1996, just before Christmas. The 4th - and last (German) owner bought the car in 2002 when she was 50 and enjoyed it for 21 years. She had it neatly maintained at a specialist in Germany. In the last 10 years alone she invested over 50,000 euros in maintenance. All bills from that period are included including the (not fully completed) maintenance booklet.
The Porsche 964 was already an evolution from the G-model with power steering and independent suspension. The 993 added to that with a 5-way guided rear suspension and even more fine tuning to the engine.
As already indicated, the car is really used, but not worn out. For the beauty, there is still some work to be done for the real enthusiast. However, the paint is in fine condition, but no longer has the same paint thickness everywhere. The chassis still looks fresh with Bilstein dampers as well as Pirelli tires.
Our opinion
In our eyes one of the very nicest and best driving air coolers. With this respectable mileage suitable as a daily driver and for the "fun" drives. Expectedly, this 993 has an attractive auction price and thus a perfect entry-level car.
