How does the Bid Butler work?
In case you don't have time to keep track of an auction, you can activate a Bid Butler. This ensures that your bid will automatically be increased (by the lowest possible increment and only until it hits your pre-set maximum bid, a so called 'proxy bid') once you have been outbid by another bidder.
For example: a Porsche Boxster in the auction is currently at 12.000 EUR. You want to buy this car, but do not want to pay more than 19.000 EUR (excluding commission), so that will be defined as your maximum bid, once you install the Bid Butler accordingly.
The Bid Butler will automatically increase the current bid by offering 12.250 EUR (see the list of minimum increments below). In case another bidder counters with 16.000 EUR, your Bid Butler will respond by offering 16.250 EUR.
Once the auction finishes, your highest bid stands at 16.250 EUR and you could very well be the winner of the auction, in case the minimum sales price ('the reserve') as pre-defined by the seller was 16.250 EUR or less.
What happens if your Bid Butler gets outbid by another bidder, but in hindsight you were planning to offer a higher price? In either case, once you have been outbid, you will receive an email notification, allowing you to either adjust your maximum bid in the Bid Butler or put in a bid manually. Please note that, in order to allow all bidders to have a fair chance to respond to a bid, 2 minutes will autiomatically be added to will automatically the auction's end time if a last minute bid is being entered.
It could occur that the highest and winning bid equalled 18.900 EUR, even though your Bid Butler was set at 19.000 EUR. However, since your Bid Butler wasn't able to enter a bid (of 19.150 EUR) taking into account the minimum increment, the other bidder has won this Collectable.
When you are not certain of your maximum bid and/or you want to be sure that this Collectable will end up on your driveway, be sure to enter a high enough maximum bid or keep track of the bids in the last few minutes of the auction, so that you can manually enter a bid when needed.
Depending on the height of the last bid, the steps for the minimum increase at the minimum next bid go up as follows:
Minimum EUR 250 per bid at a value of up to EUR 10,000
Minimum EUR 500 per bid at a value between EUR 10,000 and EUR 50,000
Minimum EUR 1,000 per bid at a value between EUR 50,000 and EUR 100,000
Minimum EUR 2,000 per bid for a value of EUR 100,000 or moreAnd if you prefer to make a higher bid immediately, you can of course do so too.
When in doubt, reach out to us by phone or email and we will guide you through the steps.
