BMW Z4M Coupé 

The BMW Z4 Coupé combines classic sports car proportions with unique lines. More importantly, in the M version, it is also a thoroughbred sports car in terms of driving experience. Besides, the Z4 M is a lot rarer than most other M models. As is often the case, BMW saved the best for last with the Z4 of the E85/E86 generation. Four years after the introduction of the convertible came the Coupé. Its proportions were those of a traditional sports car, but its razor-sharp lines still gave this generation Z4 a completely unique look. The Z4 Coupé came not only with the delicious 3.0 six-in-line, but also directly with the famous letter M. For the Z4 M's engineering, BMW turned to the E46 M3. Under the elongated bonnet, therefore, is the same magisterial ‘S54’ 3.2-litre and 343 hp six-in-line. The limited slip differential also comes from the E46 M3, while the brake calipers and discs come from the M3 Competition and M3 CSL respectively. The atmospheric S54 block already makes driving in the E46 M3 a joy, so you can guess what happens when this block is in a lighter and more compact car. What also definitely adds to the experience is the seating position: you practically sit on the rear axle. Combined with the six-speed manual transmission, this is BMW driving at its best. Incidentally, the Z4 M can be counted among the rarest models in the history of BMW M. In total, only 4,275 examples of the Z4 M Coupé were built (even fewer than the roadster). By comparison, 56,133 were built of the E46 M3 Coupé. 

The one offered here was delivered new by dealer Theo van Avondt & Co in Brussels on 31 August 2006. The buyer immediately took it on a nice road trip to Italy, and had the drive-in inspection (at 2000 kilometres) done by Gecar in Chiavari on the Italian Riviera. After that, the car had all the prescribed servicing at the dealer. At 98,000 kilometres, the connecting rod bearing shells were replaced (old ones still with the car), this was done by Mork Wenz Performance in Rockenhausen (Germany), because the Z4's owner did not want this done by an ordinary dealer but by a specialist. Bergwerff gave the car a service upon delivery (98,547 km) to the current owner. Our opinion 

The BMW Z4 M-Coupé, with its S54 engine (just drop that term among BMW enthusiasts), is one of the last old-school coupes the marque delivered. When properly maintained, this pure ‘Rennsport engine’ is very robust and a joy to behold and lives up to the ‘Bayerische Motoren Werke’ name. Thanks to VANOS technology, it already has plenty of pulling power at the bottom end and at 8000 rpm the party only stops. The CSL BBS rims complete the car. Now the chance to buy a very bright car that is completely up to date in terms of maintenance, so make your move! 

About the seller 

The owner is a well-known car journalist who has great car taste! That the car comes up for sale now has everything to do with the fact that he is also a great lover of the Alfa Romeo Giulia from the ‘60s/’70s, he has owned three of them and has been scouring the web for years to find a Giulia with a 2-litre engine that has been taken to the highest possible level with parts from Alfaholics. One recently came up for sale, exactly to his liking, and he couldn't pass up the opportunity. The Z4 M Coupé had to make way for it, when in fact he was nowhere near ready to part with it, but such a perfect Giulia as he has now found rarely comes along.
