In 2006, Volkswagen introduced the EOS with the chunky VR6 engine from the Golf R32. Not meant to break speed records, but to cruise nicely in combination with the DSG automatic transmission. A nice combo that would mainly appeal to the American public. Partly because of the Cabriolet's higher weight for the time, it was decided to use front-wheel drive only to keep fuel consumption down.
Unlike its predecessors, the EOS was a standalone model and thus not a Golf convertible. Of course, many components are interchangeable, but the EOS really has its own face and line. In addition, combined with the steel folding roof (in two parts), it could also be used as a coupé! The car still looks good and the combination with the VR6 provides a certain exclusivity! The engine delivers a healthy 250hp and 330Nm of torque. The EOS 3.2 always has the DSG gearbox as standard, which helps ensure 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.3 seconds. The limiter did not need to be installed on this EOS as at 247kmh the cake was over. Apart from its not inconsiderable performance, it also turns out to be a very smooth engine with an insanely nice sound.
The current owner bought the EOS V6 just under two years ago. After the test drive, he was immediately verk(n)ocht. After driving the car in Germany for 8 months, it came to the Netherlands in 2008. Not surprisingly, because in the Netherlands the V6 version was hardly ever delivered and used, so it was hard to find. Overall, the EOS looks tidy but obviously some signs of use have appeared over the past 17 years. The flaking paint on both mirror caps is most noticeable and is a known EOS problem, as the paint there was spread too thin by the factory. The booklet is fully completed and several invoices are present.
Our opinion
The EOS has always been a fun standalone model. With V6 hardly to be found. Only 3 for sale in the Netherlands at the time of writing and there are only a handful in Germany too. For those who want to enjoy it with 4 people and a powerful engine, an excellent opportunity.
About the seller
The last owner (like many) did not know about the existence of a V6 (R32) engine in the EOS. He went for a test drive and bought the car immediately. Since he gets quite a lot of mileage, it is no longer the right car and the EOS may go to a new enthusiast.
