Range Rover Sport 5.0 V8 Supercharged Autobiography
Quite a mouthful when you see what the title looks like, but you also get a lot of car. In the early 21st century, Land Rover showed the Range Stormer as a study model at the Detroit Motor Show. A sporty and futuristic car that unfortunately would never make it to the production stage. Nevertheless, this model served as the starting point for the Range Rover Sport introduced at the same motor show in 2005. On the somewhat shortened Land Rover Discovery platform, a modern SUV was built to Land Rover standards. Fancier than a Discovery and sportier than a Range Rover Voque. Thereby equipped with a fat diesel or even more fun, the Supercharged V8 with more than 500hp. The Range Rover Sport was a success from the start and still is. The third generation has since been introduced, but the primal version still looks good. Especially the facelift model shown here. Of course, the Range Rover Sport has all the features a Land Rover should have. High off-road capability using four-wheel drive and high and low gearing. In addition, the Sport also stands its ground on ordinary tarmac and is a pleasant touring car. The 5.0 V8 Supercharged is clearly better than its predecessor, the 4.2 V8 with only 390hp. Not only stronger, it is also significantly more fuel-efficient and now meets the Euro 5 standard.
The Range Rover Sport offered here, delivered in Santorini Black, has just about everything on board that makes life enjoyable. Apart from the comfortable powertrain, the car is equipped with full leather, sunroof, front and rear seat heating etc etc, among other things. To stop the menace, this Sport is fitted with a Brembo braking system. The black leather is finished with grey stitching and those who don't want to hear the engine sound of the fat V8 for a while can enjoy the Harman Kardon Logic 7 sound system. The car is in clean but used condition and is trouble-free.
Our opinion
Surely the Range Rover Sport was a thing in 2005. It was exciting for Land Rover as they tapped into a new segment just a step below the Voque. The Sport is more the driver's version of Range Rovers. Sportier but still with all the features you expect. Perhaps slightly less dynamic than a Q7 or an X5, but unsurpassed in terms of off-road capability.
