The combination of mid-engine, six-cylinder boxer and 325 hp makes the 981 Cayman S one of the most entertaining modern Porsches. This Cayman has an extra sporty look and sound, thanks to a series of Techart upgrades.
Porsche has mastered building perfectly balanced sports cars like no other. The 911 is their most iconic car, but the Cayman rivals a 911 in terms of handling. In fact, with its mid-engine and lower weight, many say it is the better driver's car.
The Cayman's recipe was already appealing, but with the 981 generation, Porsche has improved it yet again. The car has been lifted to a higher level in all areas and also has sleeker lines.
With the entry-level model (the Cayman with the 2.7 engine) there is already a lot of fun to be had, but the Cayman S takes it up another level. Like the 991 Carrera, it has a 3.4-litre six-cylinder. This produces 325 bhp and 370 Nm of torque, in a car that weighs not much more than 1,300 kg.
Besides being lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, the 981 Cayman has also made a big step forward in terms of rigidity. The bodywork is as much as 40% stiffer. Moreover, it is the last 'standard' Cayman with an atmospheric six-cylinder, as the latest 718 Cayman features a turbocharged four-cylinder.
This particular example is finished in Achatgrau Metallic, with beautiful brown leather upholstery. To accentuate the Porsche's competitive character, this car has been fitted with a number of upgrades from well-known German Porsche tuner Techart.
These upgrades include a spoiler, a diffuser and a splitter from Techart. The car also features subtle black striping on the sides, front cover and roof. The sound has also been thought of: this Cayman is fitted with a JM-Tuning exhaust system.
The car was originally delivered in Germany and imported to the Netherlands in 2019. It now has just under 113,000 km on the odometer.
Our opinion
Connoisseurs did already prefer the Cayman to a 911 because of its handling. But with the 981 generation, Porsche has designed such a fine version that you may prefer it over a 997 also because of its looks. Moreover, the last six-cylinder 'regular' Cayman.
Already at the base, this Cayman S is a wonderful car, with PDK and flippers at the wheel. Upgrades or tuning afterwards can produce rather 'mixed' results, but the previous owner had taste. The Techart upgrades (almost €7,000) emphasise the qualities of this Porsche making it a daily usable 'GT4'.

About the seller
Like every enthusiast, this owner had a Porsche on his bucket list. With this Cayman S, he was able to make this dream come true. According to him, this car offers everything you are looking for in a sports car. A highlight (literally and figuratively) was driving the Furka Pass. In Switzerland (where his brother lives), he now also co-owns a 911 Carrera. So his heart is clearly with Porsche. Unfortunately, due to changes in his personal situation, he has to sell the Cayman, a great opportunity for those looking for a unique Porsche.
