Of course the Porsche 911 is an icon, but the Cayman is just as fun to drive with its compact size and mid-engine. It might even be a better sports car, were it not for the fact that Porsche (certainly in the early years) deliberately gave the Boxster and Cayman less horsepower. This black example was originally delivered in the Netherlands and is equipped with the optional six-speed manual transmission. And of course this Cayman still has a naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer with the unmistakable sound.
With the first generation Boxster you couldn't choose a coupé version. There was just the Boxster. However, with the 987 generation this changed. The compact two-seater sports car from Porsche was now also available as a coupé. The Cayman was born. Where normally the open version is more expensive, is was the other way around this time. Porsche positioned the Cayman above the Boxster price-wise.
The Cayman has its own unique look, thanks to its fastback body style. This was inspired by the Porsche 550 Coupé, among other cars. The 987 also inherited design influences from the Carrera GT, which was introduced a year earlier.
Like the Boxster, the Cayman has 245 hp and 273 Nm of torque. More than enough to get the 1.300 kg weighing Cayman moving. This isn't a car that needs loads of power to be fun. This is a pure driver's car, as every motoring journalist will attest to.
Thanks to the mid-engine lay-out, the Cayan is perfectly balanced. It's no secret that this is actually a better lay-out than a rear-engined lay-out, as can be found in a certain other Porsche sports car.
This particular example has a manual transmission, which of course is a perfect fit for a driver's car like the Cayman. The 987 was equipped with a five-speed gearbox as standard, but this 2008 Cayman is fitted with the optional six-speed gearbox. This car is also equipped with active damping a.k.a. Porsche Active Suspension Management.
This black example is factory fitted with 19-inch Turbo rims. Indeed, the same rims that can be found on the 997 Turbo. Something you rarely see on a Cayman. The interior is also nicely finished, with alcantara on both the seats and the steering wheel.
The car was originally delivered in the Netherlands and was with first owner until his death in 2019. After that, the Cayman was registered in the name of his wife, from whom the current owner bought it. The car still has a fairly modest mileage of 83.300 km.

About the seller
The owner always wanted to own a Porsche and fell for the charms of this Cayman. Despite the fact that he also owns an Audi e-tron, a Renault 4 and a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, he has covered some 6.500 km over the last 8 months. He really enjoyed it and had no intention of saying goodbye. Until he recentley was tempted by something else: a BMW i8 on The Collectables. He had once driven an i8 for a weekend and the idea of once owning one car had stuck with him since. The i8 on The Collectables rekindled the fire and he can now call himself the owner. Therefore, the Cayman is offered on The Collectables.
