There is no doubt that the Porsche 928 occupies a special place in the rich history of the brand. The car was actually intended to replace the 911. We now live in 2020 and the 911 is still there, so it is clear that things turned out differently. However, the fact that the 928 has not been continued makes this model even more special. One of the reasons the 928 is unique: it is the only Porsche sports car to ever have a V8 in the front. In fact, until the arrival of the 918 Spyder in 2013, it was the only Porsche sports car with a V8. The eight-cylinder initially produced 240 hp, but that could of course be better. In 1979, the V8 was therefore drilled to 4.7 liters, so that the block produced 300 hp. From ‘83, an additional 10 horsepower was added. The 928 was built in this "S2" specification for only three years.
This pristine white manual transmission car is one of the cars from this period. The 928 is not appreciated by everyone, but that is certainly not right. The 928 may not have been the car that made the 911 forget, but the Porsche did make an impression in 1978. The car won the prestigious title European Car of the Year that year. Unique - it was the first and last time that a sports car won this election. We can safely call the characteristic design of the 928 timeless. Apart from the pop-up headlights, perhaps, but they add to the charm of this car in their own way. The fact that the model lasted until 1995 was a testament to the timelessness of the design. Speaking of design: the 928 S distinguishes itself with its black front and rear spoiler from the spoilerless regular 928. In contrast to the later S4 and GTS, the spoiler on the 928 S is nicely integrated into the tailgate.
This car was originally delivered in Germany and can be found in our country since 1993. The condition of the car is in accordance with its age. Apart from some minor points (see comments and photos), both the exterior and the interior are in good condition. Everything still works properly and the car still drives smoothly, without beeps or creaks. The 928 was intended more as a GT than a hardcore sports car, but the car nevertheless drives more sporty than you think. With a 50/50 weight distribution, the car is perfectly balanced. This was due to the transaxle construction. In addition, a manual gearbox naturally contributes to a sporty driving experience. Let this Collectable have just that. Manual gearboxes are also more scarce, so we would say: get going!
