Audi's first supercar. But is it really a supercar? A discussion many have already had. The first series R8 has a hefty atmospheric 4.2-liter V8 engine with 420hp, the engine is in the middle of the car and it looks low and mean. It actually meets all the requirements for a supercar. Still, it is pleasantly fast rather than ''gosh, what a deadly fast monster'' and was aimed at the Porsche 997 Carrera and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. So his rivals were not supercars either. This is the brilliance of the R8: it is the supercar experience, with sports car performance, wrapped in Audi finesse and refined quality. Dashboard, doors, seats all beautifully upholstered in black leather. Tight seams, beautiful materials and, of course, lots of carbon.
If you look up reviews of the R8, basically everyone writes the same thing. Despite the fierce engine and aggressively shifting R-tronic automatic, it is still a car you can use on a daily basis. Those who operate the gas pedal calmly, and learn the automatic, can just run errands with it. But of course, that's not why you buy an R8. You buy an R8 because you actually want something different from the rest.Something special, something extravagant, something that makes every drive an unforgettable experience.
And speaking of special, only 24,000 units of the first generation R8 were produced. Compared to the rival 997 where more than 200,000 were produced. Perhaps this is why the R8 is becoming a truly emerging classic.
''Our'' R8 here is finished in perhaps Audi's premier color, Daytona gray metallic. Combined with the black leather interior it is a mega combination that will still be loved by everyone many years from now.
The R8 shown here comes from a collection and is still completely in its first paint, originally Dutch delivered and in perfect condition. With less than 34,000 kilometers on the odometer, only just broken in. The engine provides impressive performance. It easily runs above 8000 rpm and easily pulls the aluminum body to 300kmh. You don't have to worry about roadholding either; the Quattro system, which Audi has by now developed far, ensures very stable handling.
Appreciation of the Audi R8 is rising. It was Audi's first (and unfortunately last) real sports car. The V8 is also "real Audi," and especially when combined with the fitted sports exhaust, a treat to hear and spur. Unfortunately, due to high depreciation, many examples have ended up with the wrong owners, who preferred to invest in a set of Chinese rims instead of expert maintenance. Beautiful and genuine specimens are therefore becoming rare. The specimen offered by us is a real gem with a spotless history.
Our opinion
An original Dutch delivered R8 with low mileage and full of options. Hard to find find and especially in this condition. We think that the beautiful and until recently undervalued R8's will only increase in value in the coming years. Various sites are already reporting that the R8 is in its last model year. So if you are looking for a nice, unspoiled car for a still acceptable price, make your move!
