If you buy an Alfa you are almost by definition an enthusiast. But when are you really an afficionado? When you buy an Alfa Romeo 4C, a lightweight mid-engined sports car.
There are not many manufacturers these days that still bring a compact sports car on the market, let alone one that is truly lightweight. But Alfa did it. It was perhaps not the most sensible move by the Italians from a business point of view, but thank you Italy for giving us this modern classic.
The Alfa Romeo 4C has been designed from the ground up as a true driver's car. Today this term is often used for very heavy cars with a lot of power, but the 4C is built according to a different recipe. The focus was mainly on the lowest possible weight, steering feel.... the concept that Lotus seemed to have patented.
Alfa has succeeded in that mission, thanks to extensive use of carbon. The 4C is built around a carbon monocoque, which weighs only 65 kg. An exotic construction, which you normally only see in supercars. The body is also made of carbon. All this has paid off: the Alfa Romeo 4C weighs only 895 kg.
The 4C is not called 4C for nothing. This Alfa has an aluminum four-cylinder mid-engine with turbo. This engine produces 240 horsepower. At a weight of just under 900 kg, this is enough to turn this Alfa into a little bullet with a better horsepower/weight ratio than a Porsche Cayman S. With the TCT dual-clutch automatic transmission you can reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Straight-line performance isn't the most important thing with the 4C, of course. It's all about the (steering) feel. And you can take that quite literally, because the 4C has no power steering.
What is also extremely important with an Alfa: the design. Which has more than succeeded. The designers have delivered a masterpiece with the 4C, inspired by the legendary Tipo 33 Stradale. The 4C still looks like it was unveiled yesterday, so we can safely speak of a timeless design.
This particular example is executed in black on black. The car was imported from Germany, is of course damage free and has just under 21,000 km on the odometer.
Our opinion
Ask an 'Alfa fanboy' (our chief journo had 4) what he thinks of a rear-wheel drive, extremely light Alfa with a mid-engine? You may not get an objective answer. But isn't this great, especially in this sinister version? A hardcore, not too practical mini-Ferrari.
It is a pity that the TUV forbids the tuning, because although 240 hp is more than sufficient, I was curious what this little rocket with an extra 60 hp would do. An Alfa 4C Quadrifoglio. Oh well, little effort to adjust that.

Modifications
The previous owner had his car lifted to 315 hp by Squadra Sprortiva at MTO Engineering in Ladbergen by means of an ECU adjustment. Before the sale, the previous owner had the 4C brought back to factory specifications by Autohaus Bleker in Münster. This was because of the TUV inspection (for that the Alfa had to be original), the documentation about this is available.

Minimal stone chips
Light damage to the right front rim
