The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic cars ever. It is one of the most successful, longest-produced and most influential models in automotive history.
The history of this car is well known: a famous/infamous person commissioned it to build a car for the people. A ‘People's’ car, in other words. The man entrusted with this task was none other than Ferdinand Porsche which eventually resulted in the Volkswagen Type 1, better known as the Beetle. An affordable car with room for five people and an engine in the back. This was a typical four-cylinder boxer engine, initially measuring 1.1 litres.
Although the Beetle predates World War II, production only got well and truly underway after the war. It soon became a roaring success. The Volkswagen definitely lived up to its name. In 1972, the Beetle managed to overtake the T-Ford as the best-selling car in the world.
The Beetle was eventually produced until 2003 (in Mexico). That makes this model no less than 65 years in production and more than 20 million units rolled off the assembly line.
The Volkswagen Beetle we are offering here is almost new again. The current owner has spared no expense to get the Beetle back into perfect condition. Besides the bodywork, the technology has also been done and the car has a 1600cc engine to still be able to keep up a bit in today's traffic. In addition, the Beetle has been subtly lowered and front disc brakes have been fitted to upgrade active safety as well. This is a 1966 Beetle 1200 that, after restoration, has been given a Herbie look including the wider rims and the well-known Herbie number 53. Judging by the photos, the restoration was carried out very neatly. Underside, suspension, engine, upholstery, everything looks neat---.
The owner has put a lot of energy and passion into it.
Our opinion
Almost everyone has a memory of the Beetle and everyone recognises the model. As a Herbie also recognisable to the younger among us! The nice thing about this Beetle is that really everything has been done to it. If you buy a wreck or a mediocre car, you are likely to spend a multiple on parts and labour because everything seems to become unaffordable. Therefore, a great opportunity to buy a beautiful one with nice upgrades. Guaranteed thumbs up when you drive it by!

Beetle equipment was always sparse. So is this one. There are no known factory options. Apart from the visible options fitted to increase safety and relaxed driving pleasure.
