The Toyota GR Yaris may have been the most talked about new car of 2020. Not just because there were simply fewer model launches, but mainly because Toyota brought something that few people would have thought possible in today's car world. A pure, analog, homologation special.
The planned WRC rally car will never see the light of day, but thanks to this project we now have the GR Yaris: a four-wheel drive, manual transmission hot hatch from Toyota. A supermini, but with brakes larger than the 6-cylinder 3.0l Toyota Supra and the most powerful three-cylinder in a production car. This little 1.6 engine produces 261 hp with 360 Nm of torque available between 3.000 and 4.600 rpm.
The GR Yaris exists thanks to the passion of Akio Toyoda, Toyota's CEO, the close collaboration with Tommi Makinen, the WRC legend and boss of Toyota's GAZOO Racing World Rally Team, and the many engineers of the world's largest car manufacturer. And the result does not disappoint.
The international motoring press was almost unanimously positive about the car. Chris Harris said: “The best new car I've driven this year is a Toyota and costs under £35k”. CAR Magazine named the car Hot Hatch of the Year and EVO said "Toyota’s new road-going rally special is a great drivers’ car of the type we worried we’d never see again." TopGear gave the GR Yaris, only for the sixth time in its history, 10 out of 10 points.
That is very high praise for a Toyota Yaris, which is obviously anything but an ordinary Yaris. In fact, the only parts that the GR Yaris shares with the regular Yaris are the headlights, side view mirrors, door handles and antenna.
This particular GR Yaris is the only right version: the Performance. This means that compared to the 'standard' GR Yaris, the car is equipped with two Torsen limited-slip differentials, forged 18-inch BBS rims, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (225/40 R18), red brake callipers and the GR sports suspension.
This car has covered only 6.500 km and has a full (extended) factory warranty until November 12, 2025.

About the seller
Tom is one of the founders of The Collectables and a true petrolhead. He has gathered a very diverse fleet of cars over the years, mainly by selling few cars. However, the fleet has grown a bit too big, so he doesn't have enough time to enjoy the various cars.
After moving back to the Netherlands about 12 months ago, Tom inquired at the Toyota dealership about a GR Yaris at the end of October. Of the 12 cars assigned to the Netherlands, only one was available. However, this car couldn't be delivered until the fourth quarter of 2021 or - more likely - the second half of 2022. Impatient as he is, Tom then decided to look for the desired car himself. He found it at a German Toyota dealership (Autohaus Priessler in Klingenberg) and collected the car there personally at the end of December last year. The car was subsequently registered in the Netherlands on January 28, 2021.
The reason that the GR Yaris is now already being offered for sale is that Tom has found a somewhat more spacious five-door hot hatch for his wife. It is therefore inevitable that the Toyota GR Yaris - no matter how special it is - won't get driven as much. And that is, of course, a real shame, especially for such an enthusiast car.
