Although many a Porsche ''Fan'' criticised the 996 generation, that opinion is now rapidly turning. It dries up nicely shall we say, especially as an MK2 like this 4S convertible. Wide hips, a low sporty line, a continuous reflector at the rear, quality materials and a delightful atmospheric boxer engine.
Introduced in 1997, the 996 range is finally starting to get the appreciation it deserves. Vilified by purists at the time, 'because a kettle of water'. By now we are 26 years on and there appears to be nothing wrong with water-cooled. Moreover, in this generation 911, all switches are finally where you expect them, you have a perfectly working air conditioning and you can wring out such a relatively modern 911 thanks to sufficient horsepower, a not too big body and the necessary safety systems. Come and find that with a 993 or G model twice as expensive. It is not for nothing that many a car journalist privately drives a 996. There is also a risk attached to the relatively low entry price for a 996. If a 911 is bought by someone who saves on maintenance, you end up buying a very expensive 911. Because in terms of maintenance costs, it remains a Porsche.
In this 996 4S offered by us, fortunately nothing has been saved on: originally delivered in the Netherlands (Porsche Leusden) and all maintenance has always been carried out by Porsche Leusden and Porsche Gelderland. Naturally, this is all neatly stamped in the service booklet. At 134,045km (April 2023), the last service was carried out. Less than 600 km ago, so get in and drive. Executed in the great combination of Polar silver metallic with a chic dark blue (verging on black) leather interior and dark blue convertible top a handsome appearance. Also rich in equipment including: Bose sound system, automatic transmission, seat heating, parking assistant and, of course, an electric sunroof.
This is an exceptionally well-maintained car with no significant signs of use and the 134,000 km can't really be seen.
A very neat original Dutch delivered 996 4S convertible with a full, Porsche dealer stamped service book and the right options. With only 2 previous owners, a godsend.
Quietly warm up, annual servicing and drive another tonne so easily. Don't listen to opinions, a 996 is a fully-fledged 911 and is increasingly appreciated. Literally because even the prices for decent ones, like this relatively rare 4S Cabrio (only 5,700 of them were built), are rising by the day. With virtually no depreciation and practicality, this is the ideal Youngtimer and usable as a fun car but also for daily use.
About the seller
In 2021, Ryjan bought his boyhood dream. The mirrors were always adjusted so you can see the wide hips. The 996 4S variant is special because of its Turbo look and rarity. This car was special because of its exceptionally good condition, full dealer maintenance and low production numbers of 5757 units. The combination of the standard Carrera engine in a Turbo body was not made after that.
Due to emigration abroad, the 4S may go to a new (hopefully Dutch) owner.
