The 964 combines the best of both worlds. When it was introduced in 1989, the iconic lines of the primal 911 remained largely intact, but in the meantime 85% of the car was new. Equipped with power steering, ABS and a modern chassis, among other things, it is a classic which, by classic standards, is easy and good to drive. The bumpers were given more modern styling and, for the sake of handling at high speed, the car was given a fold-out spoiler, something Porsche still applies today.
For the 964, a new 3.6-litre engine was developed from the existing 3.2 Mezger block, which still makes the true air-cooled boxer engine sound. This is good for 250 hp. This means that, even by today's standards, this 964 still gets off the ground perfectly, thanks in part to its four-wheel drive.
In the 964, tiptronic (rear-wheel drive only) and all-wheel drive were available for the first time. This car is a true driver's version with manual gearbox and all-wheel drive. The version is great in the colour combination red, with a black leather-velour interior. Besides an electric sunroof, the car has 17-inch Turbo look wheels, Cup mirrors and is fitted with a rear spoiler with 3rd brake light.
This Porsche saw the light of day in 1989 and was admitted to the NL in 1997.
All owners have taken good care of it. In 2012, a well-known Porsche specialist gave the car a complete overhaul and in 2017 a spot under the rear window was expertly repaired. A known problem with the 964.
Our opinion
Surely, a 964 is THE Porsche that combines the classic look with more modern technology. That technology, if cared for properly, is rock solid and lets you enjoy the classic 911 sound. Of course, a red coupé with manual transmission is not to be sneezed at. Thereby, this 964 has very acceptable mileage and is in good condition.

The 964 was well used early in its life. In 1993-1994, it was even driven 50,000km in 1 year. After the car was imported into the Netherlands, it was used exclusively for pleasure drives. The current owner had the 964 inspected upon purchase and then decided to have the engine dismantled. This included fitting the Stronger Dilivar (993) studs and renewing all gaskets. As the car has only driven around 2,000 km in the last 7 years, the owner has had the annual MOTs carried out neatly with an accompanying check by the specialist.
