Ferrari and Porsche may not share participation in Formula 1, but they do participate in racing classes of derived street cars. For both brands, it is also a nice testing ground to (further) develop and or perfect their new and existing (street) models. The Porsche GT3 cup is a great example of this, but international GT racing classes are also driven by multiple brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, BMW, Lamborghini, Audi and McLaren.
In 2015, the Ferrari 488 was unveiled as the successor to the successful 458. Now equipped with a Turbo engine with 670hp. In 2017, Ferrari released the 488 Challenge. A car that was supposed to be competitive in the GT championship between the Lambo Porsches and McLarens. It also created its own racing series and there was also a Gentlemen's Cup. A kind of glorified trackday, where owners could compete with their own car while respecting each other's material, called the ‘Passione Ferrari Club Challenge’. To make the car even more competitive, Ferrari developed an extensive aero package. This EVO package could be retrofitted at the Ferrari dealer and cost over €40,000. It made the 488 significantly faster and more stable on the circuits. Where the 488 Challenge EVO differs most from its predecessor the 488 Challenge, presented three years earlier, is in the aerodynamics. The front of the car has been completely redesigned with larger intakes, including a u-shaped centre inlet that helps cool the car's carbon-ceramic brakes, along with a new splitter. The changes give the car a more intimidating look, but also improve aerodynamic efficiency by as much as 30 per cent . Ferrari did not just spend its time and effort fine-tuning the front of this car; at the rear, a new bumper features vents behind the wheel arches and engine bay to further increase cooling. The car's massive rear wing remains untouched, apart from new endplates, but mainly with the help of a new rear diffuser, the car's downforce has been increased by some 50 per cent. But the 488 Challenge EVO's upgrades are not limited to what you see. The car's electronic differential, ABS and traction control system have all been improved too. It also has a more comfortable steering wheel with an integrated paddle shift and a new rear-view camera. The 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 as the 488 GTB street car remains standard and immediately shows how capable this engine is. 

The 488 Challenge EVO offered by us is from the year 2018 and was fitted with the 2021 EVO package by the Ferrari dealer in Norway. The car was used only sporadically by its owner in the ‘Passione Ferrari Club Challenge’ and therefore remained in undamaged condition. It is all neatly logged in the dealer's service history. The first 35 kilometres were driven by Ferrari itself at Fiorano, the remaining kilometres were driven during 5 days by the car's first owner.

Our opinion 

The chances of finding an ordinary 488 at auction are already not great, let alone a very limited-production example like this 488 Challenge with EVO package. Thanks to virgin mileage and only normal track miles without heavy competition use, it is a unique car for the collector or someone who wants to actively pursue motorsport in a competitive class. A test drive was unfortunately not in the cards, but the sound is heavenly....

About the seller

The last (and first) owner hardly used the car. He was economical with it and decided to sell the car. The current owner, himself active in various motorsport classes, bought the car along with another gem in Norway. He fell for the colour and especially the condition of the car. Since he decided not to race the Ferrari after all, the car may be sold through The Collectables.
