The BMW Z4 Coupé combines classic sports car proportions with unique lines. More importantly: in the M version, it is also a purebred performance car in terms of driving experience. What's more, the Z4 M is a lot rarer than most other M models. This example is finished in Nachtblau Metallic (almost black with a dark blue glow) and fitted with the desirable BMW M3 CSL rims.
As so often, BMW saved the best for last with the Z4 of the E85/E86 generation. Four years after the introduction of the convertible came the Coupé. Its proportions were those of a traditional sports car, but the razor-sharp lines gave this generation of Z4 a completely unique appearance. The Z4 Coupé was not only available with the delicious 3.0 six-in-line, but also immediately with the famous letter M.
For the technology of the Z4 M, BMW selected the highly praised E46 M3. Under the long bonnet, the same magnificent 3.2 litre 343 hp six-in-line can be found. The limited slip differential also comes from the E46 M3, while the brake callipers and discs are sourced from the M3 Competition and M3 CSL respectively.
The atmospheric S54 engine makes driving the E46 M3 a feast, so you can imagine what happens when this engine is fitted in a lighter and more compact car. Another thing that definitely adds to the experience is the seating position: you practically sit on the rear axle. Combined with the six-speed manual transmission, this is BMW driving at its best.
The Z4 M can be ranked among the rarest models in the history of BMW M. In total, only 9,345 of these Z4 M's left the production line, of which less than half were Coupé models.
This example is finished in Nachtblau Metallic (almost black with a dark blue glow) and equipped with the desirable BMW M3 CSL rims. The car has had so far driven 93,500 kilometers.
Our opinion
The Z4 Coupé is consistently in the top 3 of our 'no depreciation, just drive and enjoy' lists. A timeless model in the classic BMW spirit. Big bonnet with a straight six, manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and bum on the rear axle so you can feel exactly what the car is doing.
In M trim, it's utterly sweet, especially in this colour and with the M3 CSL rims. The latter may not be fitted from the factory, but they look great on this bold BMW. We think it might even be just a bit more exciting (and rare) than a 911.

About the seller
The owner has always had a soft spot for cars you don't see every day. First a Lotus Elise which was rather spartan, then a Z4 coupé 3.0si which for him was the perfect balance between style and driving experience. A Z4 M Coupé in Nachtblau was always a dream for him and last year he got the chance to buy it. As he is about to become a father, this handsome car will have to make way for a more practical model. But he doesn't rule out owning a Z4 M again in the future!
