At first glance, this BMW M4 Cabriolet with Competition Package is quite modest. No large spoilers or gigantic grille, but functional design elements and an extremely dark blue paint (Azuritschwarz Metallic). With an options list as long as possible (see below, including M Carbon ceramic brakes) this is a particularly tasty M4 Convertible.
This M4 was delivered in the Netherlands and everything is complete; from maintenance history and invoices to original booklets and folders.
In the city you enjoy a comfortable ride with the luxurious equipment, but on the winding country roads you switch on the M-mode and with one push on the accelerator you bring out the true nature of the six-in-line.
The 4-Series is a relatively new model, but nevertheless has a rich history. In fact, the 4 Series followed in the footsteps of the 3 Series coupe and convertible in 2013. So it is no wonder that the 4-Series shares many elements with the 3-Series under the skin. But by using light metals in the bodywork, BMW managed to lower the car's centre of gravity a lot compared to that of the 3-series. And with an ideal weight ratio of 50:50, the 4-series could be labelled a real driver's car, as you would expect from BMW.
The term 'driver's car' only truly became applicable when BMW presented the M4. In this version, the three-litre six-in-line sent 431 hp to the wheels. In 4.4 seconds, the convertible could reach 100 km/h. But even this was not enough for BMW. So they came up with the Competition Package, with which this example is equipped. The 19 extra bhp make for 450 bhp with 550 Nm of torque. Impressive, but with a 0-100 sprint that is 0.1 seconds faster, that's not where the biggest profit lies.
The real gain is underneath the car: adaptive dampers and stabiliser bars, a recalibrated M active differential and a new exhaust system. All to make the car handle (and sound) even better. Changing gears is a breeze thanks to the sublime DCT automatic transmission, or you can do it yourself using the flippers behind the wheel. To be able to come to a standstill quickly from 280 km/h, you will find carbon-ceramic brakes behind the 19-inch wheels. In addition, all M4 logos and the window frames are black, and the interior is fitted with carbon elements.
This particular M4 Convertible Competition is equipped with around 70 extras. Among other things, you can enjoy a heated steering wheel, ventilation in the headrests, a BMW Innovation Pack, a Head-up Display and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.
Our opinion
It is still impressive how BMW keeps on improving. We too had to wince a bit when the insane atmospheric V8 was exchanged for a six-in-line with turbos. Until you start driving. Of course, BMW has 'some experience' with six-pistons and turbochargers and you can feel it.
Fast four-seater convertibles are often hit-or-miss, but BMW can do the trick like no other. This M4 is of course wonderful with its steel roof, the right options and not too conspicuous. When on holiday 'darling, I'll get you some fresh bread'. Only to return half an hour later with a big grin and a crackling car...

About the seller
The Abarth 500C really became too small for Rick with family expansion approaching, so a fast, larger four-seater convertible had to be found. A fresh BMW F33 435i? A stripped down 4 Series (G23)? Or maybe save up for a 440i? And then suddenly there was The Collectables last year with this sleek, completely original and superbly specified M4 Competition Cabriolet.
Rick: 'What a wonderful impulsive purchase. I enjoyed its versatility, overwhelming power (and exhaust sound) when you ask for it, comfort when you want it, and open-roof usability. Off to work every day with a big smile. A year later, I have moved house and commuting looks completely different than before. The M4 is less suitable for this and a replacement is coming. I wonder which enthusiast will enjoy this ultimate convertible this summer'.
