The M3 E90 series is unique, as this was the only generation to come with a delicious, high-revving V8. After a gentle warm-up lap, the 4-litre eight-cylinder is allowed to rev as much as 8,400 rpm.
The enthusiast knows the specs: 420 hp and 400 Nm of torque and that with a lighter block than its 6-cylinder predecessor.
With the steel folding roof, the e93 retains the lines of the coupé. But as soon as the sun comes out, the silent and multiple-lined roof can be beautifully folded away into the boot within seconds: the great enjoyment can begin! The experience of the fat 8-cylinder gets an extra dimension this way. The manual transmission enhances this experience, the feeling of controlling the engine itself. It really is an enthusiast's car, the high-revving V8 is a joy to drive. The sound with the hood open is sporty without becoming annoying. The car is now a youngtimer, but at the same time has all the 'modern' extras like Xenon, Navigation, etc.
The one we are offering was originally delivered to the first owner in sunny Dubai in 2009. The current owner's brother lived in Dubai and came across the car. The car has been in his possession since 2021 and has also been neatly serviced in the Netherlands.
The M3 is in very good condition and completely damage-free. Given the maintenance history, this is a neatly maintained example. In April 2017, the DCT gearbox was replaced by a manual version. A new differential was fitted at the same time.
This M3 Cabriolet is finished in the fantastic colour Melbourne red metallic. The 2 previous owners took great care of it, as evidenced by the stack of maintenance bills. The manual transmission adds to the experience and makes the M3 extra sporty. The number of manual versions with a V8 is in the minority, as the DCT became available in 2008 and most buyers opted for it. The DCT is perfect, but you still miss the charm and experience of shifting gears yourself.
Our opinion
An atmospheric V8 in a convertible is few cars left. The combination with manual transmission gives the car a huge amount of extra experience. Shifty to drive on torque when desired and sporty and quick to change gears when you need to. The feeling of complete control is unrivalled and nowhere to be found in today's new-car market. Finally another car with a colour instead of the obligatory grey or black. This M3 can have that just fine!
- DCT replaced by manual transmission
- Kidneys high-gloss black
- Exhaust tips black
Notes
This M3 is in very good condition. Connecting rod bearings have already been replaced, original bearings are available. Due to minor kerb damage, the rims have been repaired, re-powder coated and new tyres fitted in 2023. Due to stone chips, the front bumper has been painted.
The M3 comes with extensive documentation.
Recent service history
The following is known about the maintenance history:
Before the car came to the Netherlands, much of the maintenance history was documented.
Up to April 2016 and 85,000 km, the history is known and demonstrable through the booklet and various invoices from the dealer/importer. Furthermore, the installation of the manual transmission and differential was documented in 2017. From 2018 to 2020, various invoices are available of all purchased parts for maintenance.
Since its arrival in the Netherlands, the car has been serviced by BMW Specialist Kees Bakker. Below latest work:
- May 2022 - Rear ball suspension replaced, brake fluid
- July 2022 - Various minor maintenance, front bumper painted, new tyres
- July 2023 - MOT, oil and filters replaced, miscellaneous minor maintenance
The M3 is being sold on behalf of a BMW enthusiast from the very beginning. An M3 enthusiast moreover, who in addition to this E93 M3 also owns an E92 M3, an E36 M3 coupé and an E36 M3 convertible. Several E36 models for track use are also part of the collection. The current owner has really enjoyed the M3 convertible by, among other things, taking nice trips through Italy, but now wants to thin out his collection a little bit and use his - also red - E36 M3 convertible for pleasure drives from now on.
