The 997 Carrera's came standard with a 3.6-litre boxer with 325hp and 370NM of torque. Enough for a seriously fast sports car of around 1400kg, but more is always more fun. The S versions feature a powerful 3.8 litre with a whopping 355HP and 400NM, and you really notice it. Paired with an automatic transmission, the car is great to drive on torque. Of course, it is still a sports car. High in the revs no problem at all to get the maximum out of it. The beauty of a 911 (997) like this is its practicality for every day driving and especially with the automatic transmission very easy to drive. Put it in S and you have a truly fast sports car that is still one of today's top cars.
The successor to the 996, the 997 generation was delivered between 2004 and 2012. The classic round and distinctive 911 headlights are back. The new 997 is the more modern and improved version of the 996. Many versions followed with the top models being the now priceless 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and GT2 RS. The ‘fattest normal’ 997 was the 4S. So the fat engine with the wide butt. The latter was missing from the 2S, so it gives the 4S that extra bit of looks. In addition, the all-wheel drive gives extra stability and makes the car even more usable!
This 997 was delivered to its first private Dutch owner on 31 January 2008. He chose a 4S Cabriolet Automatic in the colour combination Meteor Grey, with Cocoa leather and convertible top. Further features include sports chrono, full Leather upholstery, Bose sound system, Cruise control and Electrically adjustable and heated seats with memory. Before purchase by the current owner in late 2012, the 997 4S was inspected at Porsche Gelderland. Meanwhile, at 47,000km, the car had been fitted with a new engine that was changed under factory warranty. The car looks immaculate, has had its maintenance periodically at the Porsche specialist in recent years and was recently fully polished. The original (Carrera Sport) rims including winter tyres come with the car.
Our opinion
A very neat 997 4S, originally Dutch delivered, equipped with the right options, in a chic colour combination and also from the 2nd owner. The 4S does have some experience, but the engine has run a lot less kilometres. Also thanks to the polish, the undamaged Turbolook wheels and the replaced ‘sticky buttons’ in the interior, the car still looks great.
