BMW M-roadster

The technology of the E36 M3, but in a small two-seater without a roof. That is exactly what BMW has done with the M Roadster. A particularly entertaining and rare car.

In 1996, BMW came up with a "Z" model for the first time after the Z1. It used the platform of the E36 generation of the 3 Series. The Z3 debuted in the 1995 James Bond film Golden eye. In 1997, the famous S50B32 six-cylinder was placed under the Z3's streamlined hood and the BMW M-Roadster was born.

The car received a limited slip differential, wide tracking and specially designed wheels for the M that housed larger brakes from the E36 M3. 

The appearance of the "M-Roadster," as the car is officially called, was by no means forgotten. A modified front bumper gives the two-seater a sporty appearance, but the biggest difference is seen at the rear. Because the car's rear tracking has become a lot wider, the M-Roadster has significantly wider hips than a normal Z3. The redesigned rear bumper, specific to the M version, accommodates four distinctive exhaust pipes.

The car is definitely unique, because with only 15,000 produced, an M-Roadster is certainly not a sports car you will encounter often.

The delicious-sounding M 6 cylinder with 321 hp, made the fastest two-seater roadster at the time. Other (German) brands did offer sporty convertibles, but none matched the 321 horsepower the M Roadster has in a light body. Finally, the curtain fell on the Z3 in 2002, and production of the M Roadster also came to an end.

This example of the M Roadster, with its low (obviously documented) mileage of 93,100 km, is a rather unique specimen. The black interior with blue accents perfectly matches the silver metallic paint. In short, a correct and clean M Roadster which will ensure many unforgettable trips.

Our opinion

The M Roadster? The name of this car will always remain a thing. A super sports car with the technology of the E36 M3, with the sporting benefits of a low roadster. Very old school and with its low mileage, this car is the perfect M Roadster to add to a collection of special cars. Or one to go on a nice road trip with! 

About the seller

The seller traded this car and its sister (an M coupe) in from an enthusiast. Since the seller represents a different brand, he decided to auction them through The Collectables to ensure that both cars end up in the right enthusiasts' hands again.

Since 2014, the BMW was owned by the previous owner. In these 9 years it has only been driven just under 10,000km.
